Both were amazing, and I wish I&#8217;d done them years ago! The One Day, One Knife (with stock removal, rather than forging) certainly lived up to expectations &#8211; it was the perfect mix of doing the hard yards and learning the basic skills of grinding and shaping and heat treatment, with a little help from the instructor just to finesse the final shape.\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tinker.eccentrify.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/2018-01-26-21.35.00.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-276\" src=\"http:\/\/tinker.eccentrify.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/2018-01-26-21.35.00-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tinker.eccentrify.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/2018-01-26-21.35.00-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tinker.eccentrify.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/2018-01-26-21.35.00-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tinker.eccentrify.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/2018-01-26-21.35.00-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Not a bad final shape \ud83d\ude42 The handle was a bit painful &#8211; the guy who runs the forge got all excited about a synthetic (G10) when everyone else had wood, and it was harder to work. But it was the right choice &#8211; it&#8217;s a great look, especially the orange inset \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The second week was a pretty full-on blacksmithing course, basically building all the tools needed to get forging from scratch<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tinker.eccentrify.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/2018-02-02-15.53.22.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-274\" src=\"http:\/\/tinker.eccentrify.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/2018-02-02-15.53.22-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tinker.eccentrify.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/2018-02-02-15.53.22-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tinker.eccentrify.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/2018-02-02-15.53.22-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tinker.eccentrify.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/2018-02-02-15.53.22-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Not pictured, a propane forge that we also welded up from a steel pipe. And then used. Go figure.
